Every half an hour today BBC News has been telling me that “Tesco is taking on iTunes”. Ordinarily, I’d post some sort of essay explaining in detail why this might or might not work.
In this case, though, I’m going to keep it short and sweet.
Q. What type of portable music player can I play my music on?
A. Most portable music players support the WMA Codec. Music downloaded from this site is encoded in WMA format. To ensure that your player is compatible with Windows Media Player, look for the Microsoft Windows Media logo on the box, or within the instructions for the player.
Unfortunately Apple’s iPod uses an encoding format that is unique to Apple and the iPod. Therefore the Apple iPod does not directly support transfer of files in WMA format downloaded from this site.
To play the tracks downloaded from the Tesco Downloads site, your digital music player must be DRM compatible. DRM stands for ‘Digital Rights Management’, and is used to protect the copyright of content. Read more about DRM on Wikipedia. Also, take a look at our portable music players that are DRM compatible.
I’ll leave the mutterings about factual inaccuracies as an exercise to the reader.
