H.264 and Theora

Interesting write-up from Maik Merten on H.264 versus Theora, when encoding cost is taken into account (that is, when you have a lot of video to encode).

I would have thought that hardware encoders would be utilised in any large-scale setup, rendering this a little moot, but perhaps I’m wrong.
