Lord Carter’s Digital Britain

It’s interesting to note that while the “Interim Digital Britain Report” contains lots of waffle about ensuring everybody has access to an “up to” 2Mbps connection (no mention of latency, or what level of real-world throughput we should expect) by 2012, it contains absolutely no mention of IPv6.

A hint for Lord Carter: go and chat to the nice folks at RIPE. I’m sure the taxpayer can stomach a short junket to Amsterdam for you to have a chinwag with them; you could even take the ferry and have a couple of beers along the way. If that’s too much to bear, try talking to the people at LINX.

Seriously, though. Speak to these people. They are the experts. They’re the ones who have to actually make universal service obligations happen. They’re the ones who know what the real issues are.
