European Court of Human Rights

From the BBC:

Lord Hoffmann, the second most senior Law Lord, said the Strasbourg court had imposed “uniform rules” on states.

The judge said rulings that had gone against domestic decisions were “teaching grandmothers to suck eggs”.

Listen, fucko:

  1. “Teaching grandmothers to suck eggs” refers to attempting to tell somebody how to do something they are already well-versed in, which clearly doesn’t apply when the ECHR goes against domestic decisions.

  2. The ECHR only exists because member states (of which we are one) are incapable of consistently putting the wellbeing of their citizens above dubious self-interest. Stop doing that, and the ECHR will have nothing to do, and you’ll have nothing to complain about.
